Certification Courses

MILL 101 – Introduction to Manual Milling. Set Up, Safety, and First Cuts

Location: Aero Hangar (building 4)                   Duration: 2 hrs                     Requirements:  Red tag, 2 previous hours in the shop, 1 clean up hour

DESCRIPTION: This course will guide a student through manual Bridgeport style mills, understanding the layout of the machine and all of its supporting tools, setting up a vice, setting up tools, and taking first cuts. Students will be able to take passes on a block of aluminum by the end of the course.

LATHE 101 – Introduction to Manual Turning. Set Up, Safety, and First Cuts

Location: Aero Hangar (building 4)                   Duration: 2 hrs                     Requirements:  Red tag, 2 previous hours in the shop, 1 clean up hour

DESCRIPTION: This course will guide a student through manual head style lathes, understanding the layout of the machine and all of its supporting tools, setting up a chuck, setting up tools, and taking first cuts. Students will be able to take passes on a cylinder of aluminum by the end of the course.

WELDING 101 – Introduction to Welding. Set Up, Safety, and First Passes TIG and MIG

Location: Mustang ’60 (building 197)                   Duration: 2 hrs                  Requirements:  Red tag, 2 previous hours in the shop, 1 clean up hour

DESCRIPTION: This course will guide a student through the basic terminology and operation of TIG and MIG welders for making welds on steel. The student will learn torch setup, machine settings, and work holding. The course will also provide information about safety, best practices, and welding PPE.

ENTRY LEVEL CNC Mill Training

Location: Aero Hangar (building 4)                   Duration: Four 2-hour sessions                  Requirements:  Mill 101 Certification

DESCRIPTION: Less comprehensive than the Blue Tag, this training focuses on familiarizing trainee with the CNC machinery and how to safely operate it. There is little to no CAD-CAM instruction in this course. View complete training descriptions and documentation here

WELDING 201 – AC TIG (Aluminum)

Location: Mustang ’60 (building 197)                   Duration: 2 hrs                  Requirements:  Welding  101

DESCRIPTION: This advanced TIG welding course is designed for individuals who have basic understanding of TIG welding and wish to further develop their skills. The course will focus on various techniques such as aluminum welding, various positions, and welding of different thicknesses. Students will work on projects of their own choosing under an experienced instructor’s guidance. Upon completion, students ill have skills to tackle complex welding projects.

WELDING 202 – MIG

Location: Mustang ’60 (building 197)                   Duration: 2 hrs                  Requirements:  Welding  101

DESCRIPTION: This advanced MIG welding course is designed for individuals who have basic understanding of MIG welding and wish to further develop their skills. The course will provide students with the opportunity to practice and master various MIG welding techniques such as welding in tight spaces, welding in various positions, and welding of different thicknesses of materials. Upon completion, students ill have skills to tackle complex welding projects.

WOOD 101 – Introduction to using the Wood Shop, Safety and First Cuts

Location: Mustang 60 (building 197)                   Duration: 2 hrs                   Requirements:  Red Tag

DESCRIPTION: This course will guide a student through approaching various machines in the woodshop including the table saw, miter (chop) saw, scroll saw, and drill presses. Students will learn how to slect the proper machine for different uses and will square a block of wood on three sides by the end of the training.

DFAB 101 – 3D Printers

Location: Mustang 60 (building 197)                   Duration: 1 hr                     Requirements: Red Tag

DESCRIPTION: This course will guide a student through exporting designs into PrusaSlicer. Students will learn how to prepare parts for printing, optimize settings, and how to start prints. The course will include making small printed tokens.

DFAB 102 – Laser Cutters

Location: Mustang 60 (building 197)                   Duration: 1 hr                     Requirements: Red Tag

DESCRIPTION: This course will guide students through using both the blue laser (Butch Cassidy) and grey laser (Sundance Kid) in Mustang ‘60. It will cover both rastering and laser cutting many materials. Students will have the chance to make small tokens using the laser cutters.

DFAB 202 – Laser Cutters w/ Rotary Attachment

Location: Mustang 60 (building 197)                   Duration: 2 hrs                   Requirements: DFAB 102

DESCRIPTION: This advanced laser cutter course is designed for individuals who have basic understanding of the laser cutter and wish to develop their skills. This course will include learning how to set up and operate the rotary attachment on the Butch Cassidy (blue) laser.
